As noted, Houston is getting a lot of attention these days from EPA/government types because of environmental concerns. Here is some of recently reported proposals to 'help' our situation.

1. implement California-like emmissions requirements on cars here (high cost, lower performance, don't know about retro-fitting older cars)

2. lower the sulfer content in gas(???, ok I hear that is good for hybrid engines also)

3. auto-emmissions testing (I hear that not many cars ever fail the test, revenue generator though)

4. add restrictions to boats in the harbor and trucks moving about the city (Houston just voted to double the size of the harbor, ironic huh?)

Now some of the wacky proposal and these are true:

5. restrict the use of personal autos every 4th day.(how they could implement this is beyound me)

6. restrict contruction work between 6am - 10 am (6 months out of the year it is the best time of day to work)

7. restrict lawn mover usage between 6am - 10 am
(both private and commerical)

8. implement a multi-million dollar light rail system no one has expressed interest in using, but it will help satisfy the 'feds'

There is more but I can't remember it off the top of my head
